Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism

1-15-2009

MEDIA ADVISORY
WMD Commission, Ray Kelly, Others to Discuss New York Terror Threat

WHAT:

The Center for Security Policy, with sponsorship from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, will host “World at Risk: View from New York,” a forum on weapons of mass destruction and terrorism that focuses on the unique challenges facing New York City. Panels of experts in the worlds of defense, government and business will convene to discuss what can be done to prevent future attacks on the city. The group will look particularly at the recommendations made by the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism in their recently released report, “World at Risk.”

Congress established the bipartisan Commission to build on the 9/11 Commission’s work and assess our nation’s progress in preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and terrorism and provide a roadmap to greater security with concrete recommendations for improvement. The Commission examined the government’s current policies and programs, identified gaps in prevention strategy and recommended ways to close them.
